Wailing as remains of NUJ accident victim is interred

Tears flowed uncontrollably, Tuesday, as the remains of Mr. Tunde Oluwanike, one of the three journalists that died in an auto crash on Osu-Ilesa road penultimate Friday were interred at his residence in Awotan, Ibadan. The deceased, aged 43, was the Chairman of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Chapel of the Oyo Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), Ibadan. While delivering the sermon entitled, “Where will you spend eternity?” at the church service, Pastor Samuel Ige,Assistant Pastor in charge of Province3, Redeemed Christian Church of God, said: “Death is a must for all of us. Noprayer, holiness, righteousness can prevent death when it comes. Where are people like Daniel, Isaiah and other men of God. All gone.” Making reference to Acts 5, where Annanian and Saphira died after lyingto the Holy Spirit, he warned the gathering to remain upright because death will not announce when it is coming. He said: “Brother Tunde lived well. Though we are sad that he has left us, we cannot querry God. But what matters is that we should always strive to do His will. If the bell should sound today, can you answer the call?” Two of the survivors of the accident, national treasurer of the NUJ, Alhaja Fatimat Abdulkareem and the Oyo NUJ Chairman, Gbenga Opadotun are still at the University College Hospital,Ibadan receiving treatment. Dignatries at the burial service included the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo; the NUJ President, Mallam Garba Muhammed, the representative of the state Police Commissioner Mohammed Indabawa, members of the NUJ from the various chapels, among others. Ajimobi disclosed that the government had risen to the occasionand would continue to help the bereaved family. The NUJ president said: “Oluwanike died in active service for the union, while urging everyone to continue to pray for the family of the deceased and the injured in the hospital.”
